Disney Channel is currently moving full steam ahead on a new single camera series called “Madison High”. The series is a spin-off from the hugely popular “High School Musical” franchise. The show follows Ms. Darbus – High School Musical’s East High drama teacher – as she moves to a new school and casts a diverse group of both polished and untrained actors to create an original musical production based on their lives.
Disney Channel held an intensive national talent search looking for for “triple threat” performers (click here for that post). A “Triple Threat” performer is a performer who can Act, Sing and Dance. “Triple Threat” performers are multi-talented and well rounded performers who have generally had years of education and performing experience in Acting, Dancing, and Singing.
The series premier episode was helmed by Directors Guild of America Award winning Paul Hoen. Hoen is no stranger to directing Disney Channel productions, and has directed the Disney Channel Original Movies and series “The Luck of the Irish,” “Tru Confessions,” “You Wish!,” “Even Stevens,” “Eddie’s Million Dollar Cook-Off,” “Read It and Weep,” “Jump In!,” “The Cheetah Girls: One World,” “Dadnapped,” “Jonas,” and “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.
There will be numerous roles cast for high school students, especially talent over 18 years of age to play high schoolers. The same goes for extras, who will be cast throughout Summer, 2011. Unlike the High School Musical films which were filmed in Utah, shooting on “Madison High” takes place in Los Angeles beginning mid-June, 2011. The show’s premier is scheduled for early 2012.
